This trailer for the documentary film “Energy Crossroads” does a great job of summing up core issues, their causes and possible solutions.
Resource depletion and global climate change have become the most pressing issues facing humanity today. So many other problems we face derive from these two issues that it becomes a nightmare to imagine them.
Regardless of how many wars we fight for diminishing resources, we will eventually run out of oil. Already the rising price of oil has become an essential factor behind the rising prices of everything.
The key factors to preserving our quality of life and creating a sustainable world for our children have become the use of renewable energy coupled with higher efficiency and conservation.
The United States of America consumes 25% of the world’s energy, 85% of which comes from non-renewable fossil fuels. Sweden has announced its goal to end dependency on oil by 2020.
In 2006 only 32 percent of Sweden’s energy came from oil, down from 77 percent in 1970. But Sweden has a Ministry of Sustainable Development that has worked on a plan to ensure that Swedes will never be forced to use fossil fuels because a renewable energy source is not available.
People can do great things. If thoughtful and creative people everywhere focus on these issues then peaceful solutions will be found.
Chris Fauchere of Tiroir A Films Productions says:
“Energy Crossroads” was primarily produced in order to expose the undeniable existing facts about our current energy consumption patterns and their damaging effects on our environment, the global economy, and the geopolitical balance in the world today. It was also intended to bring to light some of the solutions that would ease these destructive consequences.
Tiroir A Films was not interested in, nor saw the necessity to, politicize this film. We are beyond wasting time by finger pointing. We all need to work together on correcting our course so that we will grow smartly toward a sustainable world for the sake of our children and their children.
We may look back 50 years from now and perceive the abuse of resources in the 20th century as we now perceive the time of slavery – as an inconceivable and reprehensible practice.
The waste of precious, finite natural resources and the degradation of our own habitat will be unthinkable in 50 years when the world population reaches 10 BILLION people. Unfortunately, we may not have another 50 years to change our frame of mind.
Using the powerful medium of film, “Energy Crossroads” is a great tool for concerned citizens, educators, and organizations to help bring this urgent message across to the public.
