* * * * * Artist’s Statement * * * * *
It’s not much, but I love Willie’s song and felt many of my protest photos went well with it. Hope you folks agree.
My Dad will be seeing Willie when he goes to San Diego Sunday at Pala. He turned me on to Willie as a wee girl; we always had music in our home.
I told him today about The Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute and he was quite amazed. When I lived in San Diego, we never missed Willie’s concert stop there…he is one of the few artists my father and I both enjoy. I hold him in the highest regard with this great endeavor he has undertaken.
First let me say that I found out about Willie’s Peace Institute because I recently joined the Out of Iraq Bloggers Caucus. I spent quite a bit of time on the site late last night and found the video post.
I have been making YouTube collages put to music for quite a while now. I have quite a few up on YouTube from various marches I have attended and those held around the world.
I also made a nice collage of our soldiers using the Richard Thompson song; Dad’s gonna kill me. Currently it has over 12,000 hits on YouTube.
Watch Baghdads gonna kill me.
…not that I am bragging, but I am very proud of that video.
I live in the reddest county in CA, Kern County, Bakersfield proper. I wear my; HES NOT MY PRESIDENT t-shirt often and proudly. I will not shirk from my duty to hold our leaders morally responsible for their actions.
I currently have a 24-year-old niece serving in Afghanistan as well.
To answer your questions:
My primary blog is: Its my Right to be Left of the Center
I also have recently created a group blog that feature Women writers from around the U.S.
That one is called The Sirens Chronicles.
Although it’s women writers, it’s not a woman’s blog. We want readers from both sexes to participate in the discussions of what we see as wrong with our country. You won’t find any Betty-friggin-Crocker recipes however
Why are you passionate about creating peace?
Because I am old enough to remember the Vietnam War and lost many friends in that horrible conflict. My first husband was a Vietnam Vet who suffered from PTSD and the army turned their back on him.
I remember getting my ribs busted up by police using batons on us when we were protesting peacefully during that era. I will never let this government get off the hook with regard to accountability for all things, especially a War For Oil that has cost us over 3600 precious American Lives and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi lives.
How long have you been working for peace?
I have been working for Peace since the 70’s when I was 16 years of age. I always had my doubts about Bush’s War for Oil, and when the truth started coming out about the false run-up to the Iraq War, I took to the streets with my brothers and sisters.
I have driven 4 hours to take part in marches and protests…all with three blown discs in my back. I consider it my duty to speak out about the injustice of this current administration.
Teddy Roosevelt once said: “To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I live by those words to this day. We must hold all our elected leaders accountable.
What motivates you to work for peace and the environment?
I want to leave the world a better place than I found it. I have been talking about global warming since the 70’s…back then people would laugh at me. Now, they no longer do. As for Peace, it’s what God intended for everyone to live peacefully in spite of our differences.
We will not be here long if we continue to slide into nation-building and warmongering. Too many countries have ‘the bomb’ now and it will only take one crazy mofo to start ‘the end’ of mankind as we know it.
I enjoy talking to ‘first timers’ at each rally and march, and I try to encourage them to continue by noting that there is no better feeling than being in a crowd of hundreds or thousands all with the same mindset and message.
Why have you chosen the path of Art for Peace?
I want the message to be delivered with the touch of a feather, a song in the heart but the sting of a bee. It’s better than hitting them over the head with a 2×4 I think.
What are your ideas for peaceful solutions?
Religious extremists groups are overrunning the poorest countries in the world. These poor people have nothing left to lose. We need to address the poverty in those countries and work to understand their needs and their desires.
No one wants to live in a war-torn region. No one wants to grow up to be a terrorist. We must work together to understand what makes us all the same under the skin and yet different because of how and where we have been raised.
My YouTube handle is dusty1215 if you wish to see the other videos I have made for Peace and Justice.
May we have Peace on Earth and goodwill towards ALL men and women soon, Dusty:)

Skipper the Peace Cat is here with me now being all peaceful and stuff. But sometimes he attacks my feet in the middle of the night.
I need to figure out how to stop that. My feet would rather not be attacked with claws and teeth.
I think Skipper needs to chill with Willie Nelson and get more peaceful. I have to wizz in a cup from time to time so I can not smog Skipper out.
