Is It Worth the Effort to Create a U.S. Department of Peace?

The Peace Alliance is spearheading the campaign to create a U.S. Department of Peace. Willie Nelson wants to share with you why he feels this campaign to establish a U.S. Department of Peace is so important. I am the Hawaii Congressional District 2 Team Leader. It is pretty obvious that we think it is worth the effort. The important question is, do you?

The Peace Alliance focuses on directly influencing legislation on the national level in a positive way. It is not an organization of whiners and protesters. This historic legislation provides practical, nonviolent solutions to the problems of domestic and international conflict. This would become a historically new direction for the United States. Are you really happy with the current handling of domestic and international conflict?

Are you ready to change a “Punishment Only” attitude in efforts to reduce crime? We have built up an unprecedented prison population of over 2 million inmates. Over 700,000 prisoners are leaving U.S. prisons each year, and the facts show that 60% of them are likely to commit crimes that send them back to prison. Our 30-year experiment on getting tough with offenders is not working to reduce crime.

The Cold War ended in 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union. The military deterrence and proxy-war approach is clearly no longer working to maintain peace. How successful have our military entanglements with Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq been? A $10 billion investment to rebuild Afghanistan after their war with the Soviet Union would have prevented al Qaeda from establishing the base from which they launched the 9/11 attack. Compare that to the increasing human and financial costs of current efforts to deal with them now.

The proposed United States Department of Peace will provide real alternatives to current methods of dealing with conflict. It is literally insane to keep on doing things the same way and expect different results. Isn’t it time to stop the insanity?

The Peace Alliance web site offers you many ways to be involved in stopping the insanity. You can send an email, fax a message and make a phone call to your Members of Congress. You can get active locally. Many Congressional Districts still need Team Leaders. Only the insane cannot see value in the effort to create a Department of Peace.

Dennis Kucinich continues the Impeachment Discussion

April 20th, 2007 Jay Posted in Blogroll, Peace No Comments »

If Nancy Pelosi would put impeachment back on the table then Dennis Kucinich would not be out there all by himself. Without the support of his peers he really has no one else to turn to but us, the people. Don’t you think he is wondering where we all stand on this?

Impeachment is a serious issue. If the move to impeach is to be more than mere political posturing there must be widespread support. Other congress members will have to get onboard in numbers. They will not do that unless we tell them to.

If you care about the impeachment issue, then you will let Dennis Kucinich, Nancy Pelosi and the rest of congress know about it.

If You Care About Peace, You Can Make a Difference

April 20th, 2007 Jay Posted in Blogroll, Peace 1 Comment »

2008 Democratic Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich is being downplayed by mainstream media as an outsider. If enough people in the United States really cared about what is going on in Iraq and in our own country things can change for the better. In this video Dennis Kucinich stands up and takes a chance, asking the people of the United States if they want to do something for peace.

Seriously, if the people of this country do not hold their representative government officials responsible then what hope is there? Every government official from the President of the United States on down must be held accountable for their actions on our behalf. Dennis Kucinich is asking us if we are for the impeachment of the government officials who deceived us into invading Iraq.

Well, are you?
