Harvey Wasserman recently guest contributed an article to Buzz Flash outlining key points in his “Solartopia!” book. This utopian vision shows us a world free of Coal, Oil, Nukes and Gas he calls King CONG. There are two significant issues involved.The first issue is that the technology to achieve the utopian vision of “Solartopia!” is already available. That’s right. Wind, solar and biofuels technology is available and cost effective right now. Additionally, technology already exists to harvest energy from waves, currents and tides.And we also have the technology to use geothermal and ocean temperature differentials to produce energy. All this adds to the energy contributed by conventional hydroelectric sources. So from a technological viewpoint we have the capability right now to step away from King CONG.

What’s the hold up?

This brings us to the second issue. Harvey Wasserman also makes clear that corporations must become good citizens. And nations must stop pursuing violent aggression to obtain the last of nonrenewable energy sources.

Peace is a result of divorcing King CONG.

Harvey Wasserman goes on to show the interrelatedness of women’s rights, all human rights, and political justice to green energy sources and peace. The barriers are not technological but human. Not all human beings on earth impede this progress.

Only the wealthiest people and their politicians impede progress.

Once again it comes down to We The People standing up and insisting upon change. And Harvey Wasserman has proven this can be effective. He was instrumental in the action by the Clamshell Alliance that halted the construction of nuclear power plants in the United States.

Thirty years ago in Seabrook, New Hampshire, a force of non-violent citizens collided with the nuclear establishment. And the citizens won. Now is the time for citizens to win again.

Harvey Wasserman helped co-ordinate media for the Clamshell Alliance, 1976-8. He was arrested at Diablo Canyon in 1984 and at Seabrook in 1989, and is author of SOLARTOPIA: Our Green-Powered Earth, A.D. 2030.

More recently Harvey Wasserman co-wrote How the GOP stole America’s 2004 election and is rigging 2008 with Bob Fitrakis. If you can see how all of these issues interrelate then you are close to seeing what is required. No doubt Harvey Wasserman sees it.
