10 Ideas for Peace

“What truly would the world be like if everyone lived their lives in the most positive way possible?” Willie Nelson
“With every true friendship we build more firmly the foundations on which the peace of the whole world rests.”
Mahatma Gandhi
“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” Mother Teresa
“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”
Thomas Jefferson
- Share your love by showing human affection through loving speech and a warm smile. Loving speech disarms hostility and allows you to disagree without negative feelings. Smiling brings joy to all.
- Compassionate listening lets the person know they have been heard. Resist the urge to formulate your response while the person is talking. Compassion is a source of inner strength.
- Count your blessings. Gratitude for the simple gifts of life like a sunny day or a warm breeze brings us closer to nature and the source of our life.
- Think peaceful thoughts. Peace of mind and a sense of calmness make it easier to handle situations that arise.
- Let go of negativity. When frustration and anger are released we have less conflict in our lives.
- Make connections with others. Listen to someone’s dream and give encouragement to pursue it. People don’t need criticism they need encouragement.
- Breathe deeply. Put your hands on your floating ribs and slowly inhale as you feel the ribs expand. Imagine a beach ball inflating or an umbrella opening. Correct breathing expands the entire torso. Yes, even your back expands. Release the air fully and repeat.
- Forgiveness demonstrates generosity of spirit. We release ourselves from the drain of past grudges and are able to move forward. Remember resentment is like taking poison and hoping the other person falls over dead.
- Help someone less fortunate than yourself. A simple kindness has immediate rewards.
- Now is the only creative moment. The present moment is life. We only have this moment. There are no guarantees we’ll see the next one.
