We are honored once again to feature an artist who has been working his creative magic for a long time. The fact that you may never have heard of him is more a comment on the market system than a miscast dispersion in your direction.

Always working on the cutting (and often bleeding) edge of technology, he first emerged into the public sphere publishing literary works on copy machines in the 1970s. This was the era that saw the demise of the ink on paper quick printers and the impudent rise of the copy machine. We thought that technology was here to give us all a voice. It did.

It created a tidal wave of self-published works.

Along with this liberation also came a deluge of mediocrity and the few unique voices were unfortunately drowned out.

Brian Clark (as he was known at the time) was not disillusioned enough to give up. Instead, during the 1980s he moved right along becoming an earlier adopter of desktop computing learning the then cutting edge publishing software.

While working his craft in San Francisco he was once again on ground zero in the use of the latest technologies to empower artists out of mainstream venues. This time he also picked up on the earliest versions of sketchy new software called Photoshop.

Who would have known?

Brian Clark did.

Once again the new technology percolated into mass acceptance and launched a wave of badly designed publications using too many fonts in compensation for too little content.

Once again, after a too brief exposure to the public lights, Brian Clark’s sparkling work became ever more difficult to find in the ever increasing flood of dreck.

Brian Clark relentlessly moved forward. Fortunately he had made a few connections with other writers of quality literature and poetry. He parlayed his connections into a too brief foray into publishing a magazine.

Thus was created Puck, “the Unofficial Journal of the Irrepressible.”

Brian Clark’s Puck was at once both a venue for writers and poets while also being a review of choice offerings from the world of the small press.

It was during this time that he wrote his novel, “Splitting.” If you can find a copy, get it, a true gem.

After a brief adventure into e-commerce, delving into the heady world of music CD arbitrage between eBay and Amazon, Brian Charles Clark was off once again seeking new technologies to give voice to his thoughts.

Now overseeing websites and blogs, Brian Charles Clark finds the time to work his magic with music and video.

Thank you, Brian Charles Clark, for creating your interpretation of “A Peaceful Solution” and sharing it with us.

* * * * * Official Artist’s Statement [excerpt] * * * * *

Dj Funken Wagnalls and VJVZ are semi-autonomous digital avatars of Brian Charles Clark; this statement has no legal meaning.

Caveat emptor legitimus, legal meaning is hereby imparted, such that: creativity is a commons grazed by all artists.

Also: Willie Nelson’s art lights me up like a doobie, which leads me to a not necessarily logical dilemma: either research peace or breathe deep the gathering gloom.
