A video mashup by VJVZ over a mix by Dj Funken Wagnalls.

Another excellent winner in the A Peaceful Solution video contest.

Another exquisitely unique vision.

I am really enjoying this contest. The creative work by the various artists has never, not even once, proven to be other than amazing, charming and elegant. Once again I am thrilled and excited.

There was a temptation to fall back on cliches. It would have been easy to label this work Surreal, dreamlike or otherworldly. But those faux labels do little justice to the piece.

The video is seductive. But it is not seductive in a compulsive way. It is tricky and smooth the way it is both disorientating and soothing. It is seductive in how it invites you to look at it again without insisting upon it.

So I look at it again. This time I’m thinking, OK this time will be the last. But still at the unhurried end I am both satisfied and wanting more. Like the perfect dessert.

* * * * * Official Artist’s Statement * * * * *

Dj Funken Wagnalls and VJVZ are semi-autonomous digital avatars of Brian Charles Clark; this statement has no legal meaning.

Caveat emptor legitimus, legal meaning is hereby imparted, such that: creativity is a commons grazed by all artists.

Also: Willie Nelson’s art lights me up like a doobie, which leads me to a not necessarily logical dilemma: either research peace or breathe deep the gathering gloom.

I love research, have thought quite a bit about research, but have not had any peace research breakthroughs.

Honestly, even basic insights escape me at the moment.

Then I think: reframe the question.

I have to start from basics; I have to work out the steps of thought.

Process and context–what are the particulars?

For there’s never a pure state of mind–peace–but a Tao of dashing and daring confusion–the flow of life, at once orange brakes going valkyrie and rickety fence clicking to the rhythm of a south-bound train all the while flashing by the faces of people hating and sleeping with you while you gaze into space, dreaming of utopia.

Thus, a film inspired by Willie Nelson.
