Tom Smith offers his highly unique folk version of A Peaceful Solution. In the great folk tradition of Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant and Tom Paxton’s Talking Vietnam Potluck Blues to name only a couple, Tom carves out his own position with the greats.
Tom speaks his mind about today’s world through his peaceful music. This technique and style solidly places him in what we know and expect from the real folk tradition. What a breath of fresh air!
Tom boldly takes Willie Nelson up on his invitation to rewrite the lyrics to A Peaceful Solution and gives us much food for thought. Quoting noteworthy visionaries and peacemakers Tom stands his own ground sharing with us his ideas, which he extrapolates from powerful statements.
Tom draws our attention to timeless yet feasible ideas by making some beautiful connections between the lyrics of A Peaceful Solution and the inspiring words of Martin Luther King.
Tom’s simple guitar riffs and mellow voice highlights inconsistencies in present policies and examines language to educate us without appearing pedantic. His metaphors explain complicated concepts in an easy to follow logic.
Tom makes no bones about his position in regards to A Peaceful Solution. Please hear it right now to believe it.

Not sure if the attached is what you had in mind, but it is what fell off of my typewriter and bounced off of my guitar.
I am just an ordinary person… one drop of water among many that flow through this world. But I believe we need not always flow downhill. We can choose the gravity that pulls us. My anger, even outrage at the direction my leadership would have us flow is growing and spilling over.
To combat feelings of helplessness, and to gather among likeminded people in the comfort that we are not alone, I have turned my music to help serve what I believe is a common goodness. All I have to do is look into the eyes of my children to know why I work for peace and the environment.
Recently, after reading first-hand accounts from returning Iraq veterans and their loved ones, I was moved to write “Talking Post Trauma Blues”.
Studies suggest that one out of every four returning Iraq veterans are bringing home with them Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or related issues. The cost of this war goes far beyond the price of oil, and will remain with us for generations.
I applaud the work of the Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute. I wish you success.
Thank you Tom. May your song travel far and encourage others to make their own version of A Peaceful Solution and/or make a video using any soundtrack that has been so generously created and shared by incredible musicians.
