Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute has the pleasure and honor to present the mp3 file of ‘The Next Country Over’ for you. ‘The Next Country Over’ composed by Matthew Andrae and Richard Ian Greene holds a special place in the history of Art for Peace.

‘The Next Country Over’ was the finale song for the 18th Annual World’s Largest Concert (WLC), which was presented by the National Association for Music Education (MENC) from the Mormon Tabernacle, Salt Lake City-Winter Olympics 2002,

8 Million Children Sang for Peace.

See ‘The Next Country Over’ video feature.

“‘The Next Country Over’ is pro- peace and invites as Willie sings “A Peaceful Solution”. The songs message is hopeful and ‘especially in these days’ timely.

“May all soldiers return safely home and may the next country over be Peaceful.” Richard Ian Greene co writer TNCO

“The impact of millions of children singing together across this country is awesome… it is literally the worlds largest sing-along for Peace.” It’s an eight million - voice petition for Peace from the Children of the World.” Matthew Andrae co writer TNCO

‘The Next Country Over’ paints a beautiful picture of how people act in a peaceful world. We sit around with all our neighbors sharing stories and songs.

Sharing culture.

Making friends.

Thanks so much Matthew Andrae and Richard Ian Greene for sharing your timeless song. May it light the way for deeper understanding, tolerance and peace.

What motivates you to work for peace and the environment?

Every day, people and the earth are being attacked for politics, for religion, for oil — mostly out of greed and ignorance. Our economy is propped up on a war machine that is destroying the environment — our very life-support system. War will kill us all if it does not stop. We have to work for peace because the forces that are raping the earth and waging war have more money, are well entrenched, and are recruiting our children. Working for peace is simply a matter of survival for humanity.

Why have you chosen the path of Art for Peace?

Fighting fire with fire only makes more fire. The way to destroy a bomb is not to blow it up, that just creates more damage. It has to be dismantled. The way to conquer hate and fear is with love.

Art helps us to connect with the truth and beauty in our selves –

with the love that we are.

What are your ideas for peaceful solutions?

Art and music are vehicles for truth, for love, and for hope. They help us to remember what’s really important and as such, are a vital part of the solution.

Economically, war is profitable. But we can and must become an economic superpower through renewable energy. Every day, 10,000 times our energy needs reaches the planet in the form of sunshine. If we (the U.S.) invested the $12B we spend every month in Iraq into clean energy, we wouldn’t need their oil and we wouldn’t need to be in the Middle East, except maybe to help foster peace.

Clean energy is the answer.

For peace.

And for the survival of humanity and the biosphere itself.
