Kenny Hultquist from Maui, HI presents his A Peaceful Solution video using Willie Nelson’s live concert version for his soundtrack. Kenny uses this opportunity to bring our attention to a peaceful solution, the International Peace Poem, which is now the longest peace poem in the world.

From this small island out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean dedicated people who want to change the world through conscious practice of peaceful thoughts and behavior created the Peace Poem Project in 1996. The project is still going strong.

Melinda Gohn, Peace Poem Coordinator, writes on their web site, “The Peace Poem is a personal meditation, a creative act of good will. Take a moment to place your thoughts about peace on the Peace Poem. The intent is to encourage this inclination toward peace in the spirit of each adult and child. It recognizes the importance of every individual in contributing to this worldwide affirmation of the sanctity of the human spirit.”

Many people throughout the world have added their 2 lines to the poem and it now stretches the length of 8 football fields. Think about all the people who believe in peace and are willing to let it be known. Willie Nelson and many others have contributed to this peaceful solution.

We’re excited Kenny has extended the Peace Poem project to video with the help of A Peaceful Solution. This goes to show you how all the arts can work together to create a peaceful resolution.

The more this idea of peace keeps circulating and staying in the dialog of everyone everywhere the sooner we as a people will decide peace is the only way for all of us to live together on this one planet.

Regardless of how you express yourself in the arts you have ample opportunities to join other artists working for peace. It’s important for artists working for peace to know that they are not alone.

Do not allow yourself to be isolated. Document your artwork on video, add A Peaceful Solution soundtrack and let us know about it. We would be glad to write up an article featuring you and your art for peace.

Kenny juxtaposes images of our leaders with images of everyday people. We all have to understand the difference and know where the real power lies.

Now is the time to take back America.

One image Kenny uses in his video shows a quote, which states, “War creates peace like hate creates love.” He gives us a lot to think about in this video. Kenny shows us how artists in all disciplines can find creative ways to propagate the idea of peace.

Thank you, Kenny, for sharing your ideas for a peaceful solution.

My name is Kenny Hultquist and I’m a papermaker/fiber artist/ woodworker for a living; a songwriter/singer/guitarist for a hobby; a videographer, and a certified field producer for Akaku: Maui Community Access Television for fun and entertainment.

I operate three companies, Island Woods & Papers (Art), ShakAloha Products (Stuff), and It’s In The Can Productions (Video). I moved from Northern California to Kona, Hawaii in 1990 and then to Maui in the summer of 1991. I lived in Haiku for five years and have lived in Lahaina since 1996.

I have a 27-year-old married daughter with two children. Maui is at an important juncture in its history, there are currently many serious political, ecological, social, and spiritual issues that need to be addressed to help shape the future of Maui.

I do my best to limit developers from rampant destruction of the unique and sacred lands that locals and visitors enjoy on this beautiful island by helping organizations dedicated to creating permanent open space for future generations to enjoy.

I have been helping The Maui Live Poets Society with their International Peace Poem since it’s inception in September 1996. It is very unfortunate that in these modern times we still have to resort to military actions that create conflict instead of finding a peaceful solution to the diverse issues confronting Planet Earth.

Mr. Hultquist … interesting … I have a nephew in Chicago named Kenneth Hultquist … I am from a family of l3 siblings and grew up on NOrway Michigan, I now live in Fort Wayne, Indiana and am a lawyer and an artist, painting mostly in acrylic with a growing corporate colection. I have never been to Hawaii, though I would love to go there. Where can your work be seen???? Where are your family from. When I was at the Univ. of Missouri law school, there was a Gary Hultquist from Iowa who entered as a first year when I was in my last … no relation as best we could tell. let me hear from you. 2. Roger: Saw your reference to Mizzou Law. I live in Sonoma, CA now and thanks to your reference, will try to visit Kenny Hultquist the next time I am Maui. Good luck with your art. I don’t think I am related to either you or Kenny. I have visited Sweden where there are lots of unrelated Hultquists as well. If you come to SF Bay Area, give us a call @ 707.996.0286
