John Moore’s interpretation of Willie Nelson’s and Amy Nelson’s A Peaceful Solution embodies simplicity and gentleness in style yet delivers a profound message. John writes new lyrics giving us a peaceful solution that everyone can practice; choose loving over hating.
John Moore illustrates a two-step process. The first step includes the realization that you can make a choice, a conscious choice. We choose all the time but often these choices seem unconscious. The trick becomes recognizing that we make choices every moment and have the ability to consciously choose. The second step comprises choosing love over hate, a power we all possess.
We can only help you out with the first step.
The Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute promotes the idea of free will and responsibility for mutual respect. We ask you to recognize that you can be a conscious being. With this consciousness comes the opportunity of choice.
How will you choose?
Now that we enter the arena of choice decisions are thrust upon us. You can no longer pretend a simple-minded animal nature. Compassion becomes as accessible as violence.
What kind of person would seek profit in violence and human misery?
Warmongers earn the disgust of all creeds and cultures. Throughout history architects of military aggression are reviled. Peacemakers have always been honored.
Given perspective and hindsight the choice becomes obvious.
The trick becomes making the choice in real time as the press of events bear upon us. Maybe if you have a peaceful song running in your head, you will remember to choose peace.
John’s makes it a point to approach the song with a humble loving respect that invites the feeling in the song to reveal itself. The whole performance becomes an example of peace and love in action.
John writes, “I wanted to say, I have always respected the way Willie has always put the song above himself. It is so apparent in the way he performs his wonderful songs. I was fortunate enough to see him perform live here in London last year and I was moved by this, and also by how he improvises as he performs his songs, always staying true to the song itself, but reflecting his own perceptions of how the song feels in his heart at the moment he is performing it. I really felt it was just plain wonderful.”
* * * * * Artist’s Statement * * * * *
I have heard it said too often that there is no point in trying to make a difference in this world, because one person cannot change the world. This point of view has never made any sense to me. One person cannot build a skyscraper or a space shuttle, and yet, miraculously, they do get built.
Every voice counts and that is why I chose to sing this song, and the other songs I have sung that encourage peace.
The simple verse that I added to Mr. Nelson’s song was as follows:
“It’s a choice that you’re makin, choose love over hatin, that’s how you’ll change America”
The reason I wrote this line was as follows:
When any ideal, or goal, is made to appear overly complicated, it tends to paralyze most people, as they feel there is no hope of things changing.
Frankly, I believe that if enough people make the simple choice of love over hate, and forgiveness over revenge, then so much of the conflict in the world would, quite simply, disappear.
World peace will not come about as a result of government’s or institution’s efforts, but by individuals choosing to do the right thing. It really is no more complicated then that.
In all sincerity,
John
“Old Drunkard” is song that my friend Dan Samples wrote, and kindly asked me to cover. It is a wonderful song about the plight of those less fortunate. I could almost hear Willie singing this one.

John is one of the finest musicians I know. His version of A Peaceful Solution is wonderful. I’ve referenced his Artist’s Statement on my own version, as my sentiments are very much the same…..only he puts those thoughts into writing so much more eloquently than I could have. Thank you, John, for sharing your talent with us.
Peace,
-M
