if you think youve had yor fill in america

if your ready and your willin’ in america

Mike Rice contributes his voice for peace with an inspiring version of Willie Nelson’s and Amy Nelson’s A Peaceful Solution. Mike really did take Willie up on the invitation to make it his own. Mike Rice tells us, “I peppered in some of my own lyrics.”

Mike’s important and powerful lyrics go right to the heart of the matter and give us viable peaceful solutions. As a voice of reason spreading peace, he urges us to get involved and “Let’s use our voices to stop the killin’.” Mike’s lyrics tell us to use our voices to Vote back America.

Mike’s contribution to raising awareness utilizes his talents as a musician. Free to create in his own style Mike displays his versatility. Mike plays two guitars, his famous strat and a Hound Dog Dobro.

Mike Rice combines great smooth vocals and brilliant guitar licks into a swampy version unique among voices for peace. I’m glad he contributes his skills and talents because he stands as an example for all. Whenever a uniquely creative person joins with others all should take notice.

Many voices who each celebrate their individuality while joining with others in unity of purpose creates a joyful chorus for peace. Our thanks go out to Mike Rice and we also invite others to join in.

* * * * * Artist’s Statement * * * * *

I am passionate about helping to create peace because I grew up during the Viet Nam war and as I was becoming socially and politically aware the specter of that “conflict” loomed over America. Some of my friends had brothers or fathers there, which put a face on it for me.

I saw that young people could and did make a difference and indeed the protests, Woodstock, and the hippie movement helped lead to the end of that war. The music of that time drew me in and I listened to their messages of peace and love. Crosby, Stills Nash and Young, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and many others saw the value of that then and the tradition continues today with Willie Nelson leading the way with projects like this one.

In the past my own contributions to peace have been limited to flashing the peace sign and “letting my freak flag fly” (besides voting and some involvement in promoting political candidates).

However in the last year my music channel on YouTube has afforded me a growing audience of listeners, many of whom are like-minded musicians, which has led me too collaborate on peace oriented music to help raise awareness of peaceful alternatives.

Indeed, I am working with 7 other musicians on YT to produce A Peaceful Solution as a “CyberJam” in early ‘08.

I feel some responsibility as an artist with a disproportionate voice to try to use it in a positive way. To me the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are the most pressing issues of our time for America and I am deeply affected by the deaths and injuries of our women and men serving there (and the civilian populations there as well).

That’s why an Art for Peace approach is a good path for me. If I am going to have a voice, let it be for peace on earth.

    great version! when i am singing along, i find myself going like “precious blood is what we’re spilling, it’s our brothers we are killing…”

    i know, it’s a little unbalanced as far as gender is concerned, but i can’t help but singing it this way.

    and i really prefer singing “we” instead of “they”. we’re all in it together. i keep reminding myself that the people spilling the blood are not very different from all of us. they are just so very wrong.

    i really like your version. thanks for the inspiration!
