Molly M. Conlan graces us with her charming acoustic interpretation of Willie Nelson and Amy Nelson’s A Peaceful Solution to usher in a New Year. Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute appreciates Molly adding her beautiful voice for peace with her intimate and touching performance.

Molly’s melodic vocals possess a soulful wistfulness bordering on melancholy with an underlying hope. Melancholy because we still lack peace in our world as we begin yet another year fighting in a war yet hopeful that a peaceful resolution will soon become a reality.

The desaturated color of the video along with the soft focus suggests a removal of the colorful distractions of everyday life to direct the focus of the viewer on the peaceful message of her song. Molly lets the music flow through her and releases the emotion she feels in the lyrics.

The pacing of the finger picking along with Molly’s vocal phrasing engenders a warm non-aggressive sensibility that still encourages action. As long as people continue to stand up and sing for a peaceful solution the dream will not die.

We need the dream to succeed.

Willie Nelson’s A Peaceful Solution project offers a vision and voice of empowerment. The beauty of this song and project lies in the fact that it functions as an inspiration.

We want to unite people through A Peaceful Solution by keeping an optimistic spirit in the face of the challenging situations we face. It’s important to know in our minds and hearts that we will find what we seek. If we feel defeated then we have already lost but if we know we will succeed than nothing can stop us.

If you are a new visitor to Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute, please take a few moments to read the story of A Peaceful Solution. To date over a hundred (and counting) artists made a video and posted it to YouTube or sent us a version as an mp3 file.

Will you?

Willie Nelson and Family sends out a big thank you to all who have participated in Willie Nelson’s A Peaceful Solution project. We couldn’t do this without you and feel encouraged that a peaceful message continues to spread. Your incredible songs and videos continue to inspire others to stand up and use their voice for peace.

May the New Year bring us all closer to the realization and recognition of the power we possess to create a peaceful solution and the will to make it our reality.

I first heard of Willie and Amy’s “A Peaceful Solution” project when friends of mine began posting their own wonderful versions of the song on Youtube.com. I visited the willienelsonpri.com website, and was very moved by the project’s mission statement.

I decided that I wanted to be part of this project, and was already in the process of learning the song, when Liz graciously invited me to submit my own version of “A Peaceful Solution”.

There are many reasons for why I’ve wanted to work towards creating peace. I’d have to say the biggest motivator, for me, comes from being a parent… from the hopes and dreams that every parent has:

the hope for a better world for my children…for your children…for ALL children.

As a mother, I’ve tried to instill in my sons a respect for the environment. I believe that if children are brought up in a way, which emphasizes the importance of being “earth-conscious” (i.e. conservation, recycling, reducing waste, etc.), they are likely to continue to practice earth-friendly ways of living when they become adults.

It will just be part of their normal routine, to put that soda can in the recycling bin (rather than the trash can), or to turn off the light when they leave a room, etc. because it’s what they’ve already been doing from the start.

One way in which I’ve made a small difference is by starting a paper-recycling program at my son’s elementary school, upon discovering that there wasn’t one.

Again, it didn’t take long for the students to become used to throwing paper into that recycling basket, rather than the trash can. Some students even began saving their newspapers at home, and bringing them to school to go into the recycling bin!

I also try to find non-chemical solutions, when possible, for cleaning, dealing with garden pests and weeds, etc. instead of using cleaners, pesticides, etc. which contain chemicals that could be harmful to the environment, or toxic to wildlife.

There are SO many things we can do…. small changes we can make, which would make a BIG difference, if enough of us take part.

I’ve chosen to write my statement on the topic of conservation, as that is something I’ve been concerned and passionate about for many years. There are some very profound artist’s statements on this site (written by people who are much more articulate than I am!) that speak about the concept of “A Peaceful Solution”, as it pertains to the hope for Peace on Earth among humankind. I’m including a couple of those, which I found to be moving:

A Peaceful Solution Markchelle Eva Teresa Johansson, Josheph Myr, Dennis Vina

A Peaceful Solution Sirus B and Lela Nickel

A Peaceful Solution John Moore

I’m afraid I’m not nearly so eloquent or wise in expressing my hope for a peaceful solution here…. I just want everyone to play nice…. share…and try to get along. ; )

Thanks Liz, for asking me to take part in this wonderful project…. and Thank You, Mr. Nelson, for your tireless efforts in making this world a better place for ALL creatures…. great and small.

Peace,

Molly

  1. Very Lovely Music, Molly! I also listened to some more on your YouTube channel. Very Nice Work…and your artist’s statement regarding the environoment and recycling was terrific!

  2. I’ve been listening to Molly for some time and I have been totally spellbound by just about all her performances. I’ve never thought about the soft focus in the way suggested but I’m sure that’s what it must be. Good job Ms Conlon yet again.

  3. Congratulations Molly! An exceptional talent with the voice of an angel.

Your solemn, disconsolate performance really communicates the grim seriousness of the quest for peace. At the same time, your ethereal vocals convey a strength and faith that peace is a force majeure. Absolutely inspiring!

    I’m swimy-headed! ;)

  4. totaly brilliant molly,excellent rendition..

  5. On a day and in a business my job is to fight with people, it was wonderful to hear someone using their talents, like others on this site, to express the belief that we each have a small part to play in improving the world around us. Whether it is the issue of conservation or poverty or anti-war movements, we all have an obligation to look out for each other, even more so for those who don’t have a voice.
As always, a great thank you to Molly for providing in song, and in words, that simple message.

  6. Hello Molly, I’m from The Netherlands and when friends visit me I always show them your channel on you tube.
    I think you’re great.
    And you can be proud.
    Love & peace,
    Jacques

  7. Molly!!! That was an absolutely incredible performance and version of this wonderful song. I also was intrigued by your comments about conservation, as that in many ways points to unselfishness and caring about others on this planet, which also has very much to do with our search for peace.
    This was just wonderful Molly!!

  8. Torrin Conlan Says:

Hi Molly! I’m Mary Jo and Al’s daughter, you may remember me from visiting you guys in TN and jamming out on the guitar with my brother Eddie and of course you know Alex. I just have to say, that I knew that evening how absolutely beautiful your voice was and how talented you were. But hearing you play this song, brought tears to my eyes. It’s a wonderful thing that you have done here, as well as from Mr. Nelson. I just want to thank you for your hospitality with my family, and for sharing your beautiful voice with the world. Peace and love always to you and your family.
