Dear Humanitarian:

We are excited to unveil the new and improved Compassion Index (CI) - AWI’s Legislative Action Center. This real-time legislative tracking system has been expanded into afull-blown activist resource! In addition to seeing how their Members of Congress stand on animal protection legislation, visitors can now send targeted emails, letters and faxes to these elected officials. In fact, most “Dear Humanitarian” eAlerts will be linked to action letters on the CI.

Despite the technically progressive nature of the new CI website, little has changed since AWI’s founding in 1951 when it comes to getting through to Members of Congress. Our founder Christine Stevens realized the importance of public involvement in the political process—and several of our initiatives have led to some of the largest letter writing campaigns elected officials have ever seen.

Nothing beats a personalized, heartfelt letter expressing the facts with a personal touch that only an individual can provide. But we also realize that your time is limited. That’s why the CI combines the best of both worlds, allowing you to personalize a pre-drafted message and send it by USPS or email it directly to your elected officials.

The new and improved CI also allows advocates to locate local media outlets, then find reporters interested in stories, send letters to the editor, or simply monitor local news sources for articles about animals. More features to assist constituents in taking action may be added in the future—we encourage you to bookmark the site and visit it often.
