Darren Forbes sings “Take Back Our Precious World” in his version of “A Peaceful Solution.” In doing this he recognizes that the problems of the United States have become the world’s problems. I would like to think that this also suggests the opposite is a big part of our current troubles.

The government of the United States made the world’s problems our problems.

Now the stakes are larger than any national interests.

Climate change is for real, regardless of its cause.

The petrochemical crisis is for real, whether Peak Oil is a hoax or not. With well over half of the people of the world dependent upon oil for food the current trends threaten billions of people with starvation.

Deforestation and the exhaustive exploitation of nonrenewable natural resources make things worse, not better.

Civilization is accelerating towards a brick wall.

Dan Forbes uses great images of natural beauty to illustrate his video. He shows us what we have available as an alternative to societal suicide.

The 7 billion of us here on this small planet will be learning some hard lessons during the next few generations. We will see the fruit of greed, empire and ruthless exploitation.

For many of us who can already read the writing on the wall, it seems that violence and conflict created the world we now live in and we hope to see peace established to the benefit of our precious world.

If we do not turn towards peaceful solutions as a species, the world will evolve to kill us off. It is as if the human race has stretched out a huge rubber band away from nature.

We do not want to wait until nature lets go of her end.

A Peaceful Revolution to Take Back America and Our Precious World is urgently needed. We will need peace if we are to save our world and if our efforts fall short we will need peace to build a better world.

Any way you look at it, peace is the path towards the future.

Music has been an influential force in creating social awareness for change.

It is a privilege to be asked to put my personal take on Mr. Nelson’s own artistic expression on achieving peace. Music is my passion and it seems only natural that it be the vessel to express my ideas about the world.

I think peace is so much more than an understanding between people, be it your neighbour, a culture, or a nation. It is being at peace with the living world in general. Not only do we need to establish a sense of acceptance and understanding for each other but also for the living space that sustains us.

Hate, greed, ignorance, pride, and selfishness has all lead to the wars that plague our planet. The “war” not only hurts people. How much of our planet do we damage and destroy in the struggle for dominance over each other whether that be economically, socially, culturally, spiritually, or spatially?

There is a great need for change, for a return to balance but it all has to start with the individual. We have to lead by example (I could write pages on simple things we can do. Things as simple as buying local produce).

If individuals are not willing to make the change, to create discomfort in their lives for the betterment of humanity, then no great change can ever happen. There are better ways to live; there is so much in our society that is killing us slowly.

Without a unified voice, starting with each of us, we will never convince our governments to bring about the change that will bring humanity into the future without war against each other and war against our planet.

As musicians we have the power to reach the hearts and minds of many through our music. I believe it is our responsibility to use that gift whenever we can to send a message for the betterment of our world. Mr. Nelson has done his part….how can we contribute to his “ripple”?

  2. Darren ~

As with “our precious world”, your video focusing on the natural world with your version of Willie’s and Amy’s song…is also precious!
