Hear “A Peaceful Solution” by Eri Ii

Eri Ii performs a truly unique version of “A Peaceful Solution” on her Theremin.

The haunting sliding notes of her Theremin elevates the melody to an ethereal dimension. Eri Ii gives “A Peaceful Solution” a lightness and insubstantiality that makes it seem impalpable or intangible as air.

These days it does seem as if a peaceful resolution is as insubstantial as a dream.

The important thing to remember is that everything first is born in a dream before it can be realized in the physical world. Eri Ii invokes the spirit of peace with unusual lightness and delicacy.

Now it seems peace only lives in the regions beyond the earth.

Just by dreaming of peace we bring it a step closer to manifestation. Forming the idea of peace in the mind is an essential step for its creation.

Taking this immaterial, intangible, unworldly and spiritual idea and making it manifest requires nothing less than an act of magic.

Rendering an idea in the form of music and song is a magical act. Now peace can be spoken of as it travels the world as vibrations riding waves through space.

Eri Ii performs this magical act with her art.

This is just as essential a step as conceiving of the idea in the first place. Now the idea can travel and propagate. Now the idea of peace can grow strong as it becomes supported by more voices.

Soon we will be able to manifest a tangible worldly peace because of the work done by artists such as Eri Ii.

More and more people acknowledge the great challenges facing the human race day after day. For many of us peace among all the people of earth seems to be prerequisite to meeting these great challenges.

We’ve thought it and now we’re singing it. The next step is manifesting peace materially and substantially in the world.

“Throw away the gun, and have musical instruments.”

I was born in Japan and grew up in peacetime. I feel very fortunate about it.
My family and I, we all are general citizens, and I always wanted to become a person who can make friends with people all over the world through music.

I have been supporting the activities of “Wonderful World of Jazz Foundation” (WJF) which Mr.Yoshio and Ms. Keiko Toyama are the representatives. I would like to introduce you to the activities of WJF.

Mr. and Mrs. Toyama are the JAZZ musicians active in Japan and the United States presenting musical instruments donated by Japanese music lovers to the children of the City of Jazz. These children grow up surrounded by guns and drugs and this causes much suffering.

The Foundation collects instruments in Japan, arranges for their refurbishment, and then donates them to New Orleans school children who cannot afford their own instruments.

WJF’s will present instruments to the students of G.W. Carver Senior High School, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School and more.

“Hana Kotoba - Language of flowers “

Lyrics by Eri

Children in Asia.
Let’s decorate beautiful flowers.
Children in Africa.
Let’s find a new dream.
Children in Europe.
Let’s dance under the moon.
Children in South and North America.
Let’s sing in a loud voice.
Children in Oceania.
Let’s spend happy time.

Children all over the world.
All the people are lovely.
Peace.

  1. Beautiful. And as I listened, I read about the whales. Looking further, I see at http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5goz_Z25ZPQRrtMIiy8YP0RX5FGsg, which says “Under the court decision, the Navy must maintain a 12 nautical mile no-sonar buffer zone along the California coast, shut down sonar when marine mammals are spotted within 2,200 yards (meters) and avoid whale habitats among other measures.” Most ‘news’ on this seems to be ‘positive’ that way. But at http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jLbXdcs-qiXUTGC3kWW8Atb7v_mwD8V55AO00 I read “The court also said the Navy can continue to use sonar — although at a lower sound level — when a marine mammal is within 2,200 yards if the sonar is being used ‘at a critical point in the exercise.’ ” Who makes the call?

  2. Thank you Willie and Eri.

I’m a professional thereminist in New York, and grew up in Colorado. During the last year of his life, my father (a veteran and usually an uncritical supporter of all conservative national initiatives) became quite vocal in his disgust for the current war and his wish that no more young people should have to experience what he did in the second world war.

After his death I wanted to do a theremin piece in his honor. As I was preparing for a concert I was also consumed with feelings like his that lives and resources were being wasted in misguided and mismanaged military engagements around the world.

In exploring new material a most unlikely song hit the mark, a song usually thought of as war supportive: “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”. But when visualized in the context of Civil War causalities returning home and after contemplating the full lyrics, “When Johnny” really galvanized my feelings. My dad’s name was John and he was called Johnny by his family.

This all came together in the making of my arrangement of the folk song titled “When” for autoharp and theremin. The autoharp held the historical connection of the tune and I found my theremin was perfect for expressing those feelings and images, hopefully invoking the melancholy march home and the whistling of a service man, or a conscious citizen, who’s heart has called for the truth of peace.
    When will they come home?
    When will war cease?
When will our world have peace?
    We are asking, When.
