Hear “A Peaceful Solution” by Lawrence and Richard Greene
Lawrence William Greene sings and performs lyrics he wrote with his cousin Richard Ian Greene for “A Peaceful Solution.”
Where the original lyrics by Willie Nelson went “There’s a war and we’re in it, but I know we can win it.” and later “And when the war is over and we’ve won it let’s remember how we done it so we don’t have to do it again.” Lawrence and Richard Greene write “There’s a war here at home For the truth to be told We know that we’ll win it No matter how they spin it” which makes the nature of the war we’re in very explicit.
I like this treatment because it goes right in line with my interpretation of the original lyrics. Willie Nelson wrote about a war We The People are engaged in to Take Back America.
Many people seem to feel that our government has been hijacked by narrow corporate interests. These same corporations also own mainstream media controlling the misrepresentation, fabrication or general ignorance of current affairs.
Lawrence and Richard Greene make their understanding of what is going on very clear.
Lawrence Greene put together a great sound reminiscence of classic peace songs from the past.
One may question whether or not America ever belonged to the people. Perhaps the appearance of liberty has only been an illusion. If this is the case then more and more people are waking up all the time.
Another point-of-view suggests that we actually exercised greater liberty in the past and this has been eroded over time by laws passed to benefit corporate interests. In this case we have indeed lost something and it’s high time to get it back.
In either case, the current circumstances make problems worse rather than working to improve the human condition. Clearly, changes must be made and if they are to be meaningful changes then they must occur peacefully. Otherwise it will just be the beginning of a new cycle of violence.
It would be impossible for me not to agree with Lawrence and Richard Greene’s lyrics. I look forward to seeing and hearing more personal interpretations of “A Peaceful Solution.”
Richard and Lawrence wrote the lyrics with Willie and Amy’s lyrics as a starting point. Lawrence wrote the music, played all instruments and performed the vocals for this unique version of “A Peaceful Solution.”
Take Back America (A Peaceful Solution)
Int
A peaceful solution is a
Peaceful revolution
Vi
There’s a war here at home
For the truth to be told
We know that we’ll win it
No matter how they spin it
Let’s take back America
V2
We’ll no
Longer cower
To politicians
Who crave power
We won’t be refused
Denied or abused
Let’s take back America
Br.
Come on wake up from
Your dream
They’re still selling you lies
Keeping soldiers in the desert
To kill
And die
V3
The law, doesn’t matter
When it’s oil they’re after
Let’s act with resolution
And save our constitution
Let’s take back America
V4
There’s a peaceful solution
Called peaceful revolution
Let our voices be strong
Let’s make right what’s wrong
Let’s take back America

How long have you been working for peace?
Not long, just a couple of years. But not until the last seven years have I ever seen so many political hacks in power at one time causing so much suffering.
What motivates you to work for peace and the environment?
War and bad politicians.
Why are you passionate about creating peace?
Because peace is beautiful.
And since I create music and words, I put that passion towards inspiring peace in the hope that it may create an opportunity for awareness.
Awareness is the beginning.
Why have you chosen the path of art for peace?
Because the path of ‘Ringing Bad Politician’s Necks for Peace’ isn’t an option. No, actually, it’s because combining words and music happens to be my only skill.
What are your ideas for peaceful solutions?
Wow. Big question. I’m sure there are tons of good ideas out there just waiting to be manifested. My favorite idea as a step toward peace has been ‘tough love’ for politicians.
I’d make every congressperson who voted for the war in Iraq be the first one to tell a deceased soldier’s family, in person, that their son or daughter has lost their life. Then sit back and watch who resigns from congress to “spend more time with their family.”

This an amazing artistic rendition of Willie’s “Peaceful Solution.” The juxtaposition of lyrics and style make Lawrence Greene’s version stand out intellectually and artistically. Anti war lyrics delivered by Mr. Sandman. Beautiful and artistic satire at its best. Thanks Larry for thinking about it.
