In the United States, horses have never been raised for human consumption, yet for decades, our horses have been bought and slaughtered by a predatory, foreign-owned industry for sale to high-end diners in Europe and Asia.”
The Animal Welfare Institute has just released an updated version of our horse slaughter brochure, “Betraying Our Equine Ally.” The text has been expanded into a booklet that incorporates recent news about the closures of the last remaining slaughter plants in the United States, as well as the need to pass the American Horse Slaughter Protection Act (AHSPA) to prevent US horses from being sent to their deaths across the border.
