Top 5 Willie Nelson Political Causes

“Above all other things I believe in the universal truth of the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Willie Nelson

Number one on the top 5 Willie Nelson political causes countdown is Global Peace. Willie says, “I believe in peace. I also believe that culture and knowledge are capable of bringing about both freedom and peace.” Willie wants a Peace Revolution and he’s got A Peaceful Solution.

That’s why in April 2007 Willie founded the Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute and launched a blog. As mainstream media fails to report all the facts we count on everyone on the uncensored Internet to keep the freedom of speech alive. Willie wants to hear from you and help us create global peace in our lifetime.

Willie’s song “Whatever Happened to Peace on Earth” is a strong critique of both the war in Iraq and those who think it’s unpatriotic to question our government. Willie is clear in his response to the critics who say he’s unpatriotic or is not supporting the troops. Willie says, “supporting peace doesn’t mean you’e against the people who risk their lives for the country. I’m just opposed to their risking their lives for what may not in the long run be any real gain.”

Don’t confuse caring for weakness
You can’t put that label on me
The truth is my weapon of mass protection
And I believe truth sets you free.

-Willie Nelson, “Whatever Happened to Peace on Earth”

Number 2 on the top 5 Willie Nelson political causes countdown is Biodiesel and all biofuels to protect the environment, make us energy independent and help the family farmer and small business.

Willie says, “For starters, biofuels burn cleaner than traditional fossil fuels and that makes them better for the environment and better for the air we breathe. Biodiesel reduces carbon dioxide emissions up to eighty percent, particulate emissions up to seventy-five percent, and sulfur emissions up to a hundred percent. Compared to traditional diesel fuels, Biodiesel is also safer to handle, helps diesel engines run quieter and last longer, and—-just in case there’s a spill— breaks down in the environment much faster.”

Energy independence is possible now. Willie says,”Whatever your opinion about the war in Iraq, you can’t ignore the fact that we spend hundreds of billions of dollars fighting a war in a place that has a lot of energy resources. The end result of that war won’t be known for a long time, but there is really no need going around starting wars over oil when we have what we need right here at home.”

Number 3 on Willie Nelson top 5 political causes countdown is the Family Farmer. Willie Nelson and friends have been doing Farm Aid for twenty years trying to keep the family farmer on their land while big corporations supported by unfriendly legislation in the Farm Bill force them out and take over their land. Willie has an idea, “If we truly want to make our country energy-independent, we need a biofuel homestead act to put America’s farmers back to work on the land, growing sunflowers and other crops to make our vehicles go.”

Willie continues,”Putting families back on the land would revitalize small towns and cities all across America and reverse a fifty-year decline in Middle America.”

Now here’s a great idea to utilize a million acres of unused farmland, put a million out of work farmers back on the land and meet our desperate need for alternative fuels. Willie proposes, “Because the efforts of these families would be for the common good, we should be able to set a price that guarantees they don’t lose money. If they work five hundred acres of fallow land for five years, then the land would be theirs to operate and to pay taxes on, taxes that will support local services and schools.”

Number 4 on Willie Nelson top 5 political causes countdown is Hemp. Willie is unabashed in his views, “As far as I can tell, the primary reasons and uses for the hemp plant are to smoke it, wear it, or use it to make fuel to burn in our cars. And I’m in favor of all three.”

Number 5 on Willie Nelson top 5 political causes countdown is Saving Horses from slaughter.

Willie says, “Consider the therapeutic riding programs across the country, where horses can have more progress with children with various physical and mental disabilities than their own doctors.”

Willie continues,”With no disrespect to the eagle, I’ve always thought that the horse should be our national emblem. When horse accepted man onto his back and chose to carry his burdens, it changed the world. Horses have aided mankind through his most arduous and treacherous endeavors, from the sword to the plowshare. Humanity owes an incalculable debt to the horse. In Native American teachings, Horse enables shamans to fly through the air and reach heaven. To steal someone’s horse is to steal their power.”

Nearly 100,000 horses are killed annually in foreign-owned slaughterhouses in America for human consumption in other countries.

The passage of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (H.R. 503/S. 1915) would put in place a permanent and immediate ban on both the slaughter of horses in the U.S. and the exportation of live horses for slaughter abroad.

These are Willie Nelson’s top 5 political causes. Will you consider making them your political causes?

Thank you Willie for speaking up. I am so deeply concerned that so many follow even bad leadership like sheep. This war in Iraq is an outright crime against humanity and yet people don’t stand up and stop it. I write my congress people all the time, but frankly this cannot be solved on a political level because it is the some consciousness that created this situation.

I write about peace, purpose and consciousness at http://www.explorelifeblog and I am on a mission to wake people up.

  17. Liz says:

Waking people up is definitely a worthy goal. People are standing up all over the country. There is a huge peace movement that is influencing the public and the leaders in DC. Mainstream media chooses not to give them coverage. Your letters are influencing the politicians. Why do you think those 11 Republicans went to see the President? Their constituents want out of Iraq. These guys want to get reelected and they won’t be if they don’t listen to the people of the US.
