Iraqi Oil Inhibits Peace
The one thing no one is talking about in U.S. government is the oil issue. The one thing no one is talking about in mainstream media is the oil issue. Until you understand the oil issue you will not understand what is going on in Iraq.
The 1980 Carter Doctrine declared that the U.S. would use “any means necessary, including military force” to secure U.S. oil interests in the Persian Gulf. So forget the “spread democracy” spin job. Forget the “saving the world from Saddam Hussein” and “protecting us from terrorists” rhetoric. Forget the al-Qaeda links and 9/11 retribution.
They are all lies.
Iraq has been occupied to benefit the Big Four; the United States firms Exxon Mobile and Chevron, the British BP Amoco and Royal Dutch Shell, which dominate the world oil market. And the Big Four do not care about Corporate Social Responsibility. Their only loyalty is to their major stockholders. That is great if you are in that 1% of The People of the United States in that group.
You cannot even believe the invasion is in the best interest of the United States. The Big Four are actually multi-national corporations with no national allegiances. Their profits are up since the invasion. Have you seen any benefits from this at the gas pump? I haven’t. But they still haven’t gotten their hands on the prize yet.
So what is the big holdup?
The Iraqis are dragging their feet. They are resisting signing into Iraqi law the foreign control of and all profits from their oil. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iran all keep the control and the profits for themselves. For over 30 years the oil in the area has been in the hands of the Persian Gulf nations. The Iraqis wish to keep it that way.
After being urged by the United States to wage war on Iran and then not receiving enough support to win, Iraq learned a lesson. After being told that it was OK to reintegrate Kuwait into Iraq and then being invaded for doing so, Iraq learned a lesson. After enduring 12 years of sanctions, Iraq learned a lesson. After all these lessons, Iraq was going to sign oil development deals with everyone except the United States.
So the United States invaded.
And now the United States wants Iraq to sign over all of its oil rights. That is the deal. For the first time in U.S. history two veterans of the oil industry occupy the nation’s top two jobs. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney promised guaranteed access to the world’s biggest and best oil reserves.
The obscenely huge profits were going to pay off everyone’s guilt. After being shocked and awed the Iraqis would just sign over everything. You can almost see the Power Point presentation. To be in with the military and out with the contracts in a few months was a slam-dunk. And all Bush and Cheney had to do was to figure out how to sell it to The People of the United States.
Lucky for them 9/11 happened.
It is hard to imagine how The People of the United States would have gone for it with any less shock and awe. Then Iraq had the opportunity to experience shock and awe. Now the only thing left is for the Iraqis to sign on the dotted line. But then they decide to go on a two-month vacation. Go figure.
And in the bargain The People of the United States now have to live with the al-Qaeda boogeyman. The bigger brother of the one that used to live under your bed when you were four years old is now loose. The ugly brother of the Easter Bunny has arisen!
And it is just as real.
Yes, there are still nut-jobs out there, just as there has always been. But if you think there is really a huge international terrorist organization focused on doing away with the United States, then make sure you keep sending those letters off to Santa. Almost six years after 9/11 and still no sign to be seen of any Islamist terrorist organization discovered in the United States.
Gee, I guess all that airport security is fulfilling its purpose. All those illegal wiretaps must be keeping us safe. The Bill of Rights is down the tubes but I’m sure you are sleeping better because of it. Of course all of this is necessary. The proof is obvious.
There have been no terrorist attacks.
Forget the reports that our harbors, schools and shopping malls are just as vulnerable as they ever were. Forget that somehow lone nut-jobs can still go off killing people at these locations at will. The fact that there have been no terrorist attacks at these locations must be the proof that the Department of Homeland Security is doing its job.
The proof of terrorist cells in the United States is that there is no evidence of terrorist cells in the United States. Isn’t that slick? Meanwhile Cheney is off on a surprise mission to Iraq to chastise those truant Iraqis that are resisting signing away their national treasure. I suppose he has to remind them of all the benefits of democracy that we brought them.
And don’t you forget either.

I have & still am sending emails to every congress person I can. Even to Bush, Rice & Pelosi. All the emails have been about getting out of Iraq, impeaching Bush & Cheney. I also stated that if they do not do what WE THE PEOPLE want them to do, as they represent us, they will be looking for a new job come next election.

[...] Democrats lust after Iraq oil just as the Republicans do. I’ve written about this before, here. It is no wonder that these oil and gas laws due by the end of the month remains mired in debate. [...]
