Peace through Love

“I believe that we ignore the law of love at the peril of our own lives and the planet we share.” Willie Nelson

With all the talk flying around about the possibility of bombing Iran including all options are on the table I offer to put love on the table as a pathway to peace. I’m not saying this is the only avenue to achieve peace excluding active political work. The multitudes of peace organizations and publications that campaign and report passionately and relentlessly deserve our help and gratitude because involvement in government and education is absolutely necessary to bring meaningful peaceful change.

Peace is revolutionary.

The people of the United States can institute a government that reflects the voices of our diverse population. We have documents that support us in our effort to live up to the law of the land, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. My humble suggestion in the face of a momentous global situation is that love be the foundation and guiding principle for any actions we choose to take.

Love is a guide.

If we ignore love as we work to create peace in Iraq and forward towards global peace for all or to impeach Cheney and Bush we risk becoming what we fight against. We can achieve the same ends but protecting our hearts and minds deserves utmost attention or we will find ourselves in the next conflict because we have not changed the root causes in ourselves that create conflict in the first place. Unconditional love as the motive behind our actions will bring a lasting peace.

Love creates peace.

The more I connect with people in the peace movement the more I understand the commitment to take action has it’s roots in a sense of deep compassion, love and justice. These unjust, immoral terrorist’s attacks on sovereign nations by the United States of America emphasizes the need for more compassion as we realize what is being wreaked upon our fellow human beings in our name for an aggressive grab for resources that don’t belong to us.

Let compassion free your voice.

So as we look towards Iran and demand from our leaders that no military action ensue, Rumi, a poet 750 years ago from Persia now called Iran has words to guide us toward a path of love and peace. Rumi speaks of God and if you don’t believe in God his message of love is still a principle all can embrace. If you do believe in God then listen carefully and understand Rumi’s words that God is only love for all no matter whether a person has a religion or not.

Everyone deserves love.

Thank you, Majid Naini
